Over-relying on the criminal justice system
has not kept survivors safe. Many survivors, especially from marginalized communities, say they
don’t want to call the police because of the likelihood that doing so will make their situation worse. They need other options. We’ve known this for a long time, but the deaths of George Floyd and countless other Black, Brown, Indigenous and transgender people at the hands of police has led to a national moment of reckoning about deadly racism in the name of safety.
In this workshop, we’ll look at how our movement got here in the first place, try to make sense of many truths, and think together about how to advance survivors’ freedom, options, and connection in your communities.
